150 Feared Dead as Himalayan Glacier Bursts in Northern India

As many as 150 workers are feared dead after a Himalayan glacier broke apart and crashed into a hydroelectric dam in Joshimath, in the Chamoli district of India’s Uttarkhand state, on Sunday, February 7.

A section of the Nanda Devi glacier broke off, damaging a hydropower dam in in Tapovan-Reni, Vivek Pandey, an Indo-Tibetan Border Police spokesperson said.

Footage shared on social media shows the floodwater streaming through the area and causing widespread damage.
