16 Jacksonville area volleyball players who have stood out midseason

By this time in the high school volleyball season, Croatan has established itself as the area’s best team while Southwest is well on its way to a playoff berth and teams such as Jacksonville and Dixon still have a little work to do to solidify spots.

But what about area players? Who are the ones who have emerged as the area’s standouts so far this season? Here is a look at those players:

Layni Augherton, Southwest: The senior averages 16.3 assists per match.

Hadley Brinson, Richlands: The junior has showed her versatility with 231 digs, 128 kills and 42 aces.

Anneliese Capps, Dixon: The senior leads her team with 232 assists to go along with 112 digs.

Taylor Carper, Southwest: The junior led the area in goals last girls’ soccer season, but has shown she can also play volleyball as she averages 9.7 kills per match.

Kammy Chamness, Swansboro: The senior has 116 digs, 83 kills and 37 aces.

Jamie Cook-Watt, Southwest: The junior is her team’s strongest player at the net as she averages 10.8 kills and 1.2 blocks per match.

Cammie Davis, Croatan: The senior libero and reigning area player of the year is again handling her business for the Cougars, who are in position for a fifth consecutive conference title, thanks to a collective effort.  In four seasons, she has 881 digs, 112 assists, 81 aces and 25 kills.

Shawnee Flatt, Jacksonville: The sophomore leads the Cardinals with 221 assists.

Addyson Jarman, East Duplin: The junior doesn’t have as many kills as other net enforcers with 107, but she also has 79 blocks. She has eight matches with at least six blocks.

Katie Lovell, Jacksonville: The senior has 99 digs.

Meghan O’Connor, Lejeune: The senior has 74 kills, but also has 96 assists. She has four matches with at least 10 assists, including 10 in a four-set win over Jones Senior last month.

Kelsey Rochelle, Dixon: The senior doesn’t lead her team in one category, but does many things well. She has 140 digs and 73 kills.

Courtney Silance, Dixon: The sophomore has 242 digs with 12 matches with at least 10. She had 20 in a three-set victory over White Oak last month.

Neyland Tate, East Duplin: The junior is one of the area’s top assist players with 322.

Lovina Teel, Jacksonville: The junior has emerged as one of the area’s top net enforcers in her second varsity season. She has 138 kills with seven matches with at least 10, including against state powers D.H. Conley and J.H. Rose.

Kristin Vinson, Swansboro: The senior is a dig machine with 246. She has eight matches with at least 20, including 38 in a five-set win over Southwest in August.
