16-month-old boy fatally shot by 5-year-old sibling who found gun inside Indiana apartment, police say
LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Police in Indiana are investigating the death of a 16-month-old boy shot by his 5-year-old sibling, who found a gun in a Lafayette apartment, this week.
Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello said Isiah Johnson died in the incident.
Wednesday's autopsy determined the boy died from one gunshot wound. The manner of death, however, is pending completion of the police investigation and toxicology reports, Costello said.
The boy's 5-year-old sibling got a hold of a handgun inside the apartment and and shot Johnson, according to a Lafayette police news release published late Tuesday.
No arrests have been made as of Wednesday morning, police said.

The case remains under investigation, police said. When finished, the case will be sent to the prosecutor's office for review to determine if charges might be filed.
Police received a 911 call about the shooting about 3 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
"There was one adult and two children inside the apartment," Lafayette police Lt. Matt Gard said.
The 911 call reporting a child not breathing came from someone outside of the apartment, Gard said.
"When I arrived on scene, I don't believe any life-saving measures were taken," Gard said.
Lafayette is located about 60 miles north of Indianapolis.
