16-year-old boy airlifted to hospital after vehicle accident

(KRON) — A 16-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital after being involved in a vehicle accident outside of Petaluma Wednesday, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said.

Around 3:40 p.m., the SCSO helicopter was on air patrol over Rohnert Park. It responded to a vehicle accident on Chileno Valley Road outside of Petaluma involving a teenager who was ejected from one of the vehicles involved. The helicopter landed in a nearby field.

The paramedic with the helicopter began treating the boy who was reportedly ejected during the accident, since medical personnel deemed him the most critical. Petaluma Fire, Gold Ridge Fire and an ambulance from the Sonoma County Fire District also responded and began treating the other victims.

The 16-year-old victim was airlifted to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment due to the remote location of the accident, officials said. Police said he is in stable condition.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
