17-year-old girl shot in Short North is fourth teen slain in Columbus in less than a week

For the fourth time in less than a week, Columbus police homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting death of a teenager.

Around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, 17-year-old A'niyah Elie was brought to Nationwide Children's Hospital in a private vehicle with injuries she sustained when she was shot on the 1300 block of North High Street in the Short North, detectives said.

Elie died from her injuries early Monday morning, detectives said.

No suspects or motive have been identified in her killing.

Columbus police not talking about fatal teen shootings

Columbus police would not make anyone available to The Dispatch on Monday to discuss the recent stretch of homicides involving teenagers.

In 2022, there have been nine teenagers under the age of 18 killed by gunfire in the city. There have been another 11 teenagers charged as suspects in homicides that have occurred in 2022.

Fifteen teenagers were killed in 2021 and 13 teenagers were charged as suspects in homicides.

Teen sister of woman fatally shot in club shooting also dies

On Saturday, 17-year-old Kha'Terra Griffin, of the South Side, died from injuries she sustained in a Sept. 25 shooting at an East Side club.

Griffin and her sister, 30-year-old Shamira Rhodes, were shot along with others around 4:25 a.m. that morning at the Queen of Hearts club, located at 5512 E. Livingston Ave.

Rhodes died previously from her injuries. Griffin underwent numerous surgeries in an unsuccessful bid to save her life.

Police have arrested and charged 28-year-old Amara Battle with murder in connection with the shooting. Court records show a fight inside the club resulted in gunfire.

South Man wanted for fatal shooting of teen still at-large

The suspect wanted on an arrest warrant for murder in connection with the shooting death of 15-year-old Lovely Kendricks is still being sought by police. Roshawn Adkins Jr., 18, of the South Side, has been charged with murder in connection with Kendricks' death.

Kendricks and other females were reportedly fighting around 3:20 p.m. Oct. 10 at Franklin Park, on the Near East Side, when Adkins fired at least one shot, striking Kendricks. She was rushed to Nationwide Children's Hospital but died from her injuries.

Kendricks was a student at East High School, located across Broad Street from Franklin Park, and a member of the cheer squad.

Columbus City Schools said neither Elie nor Griffin were students in the district.

Man dies week after being shot in South Linden

A Reynoldsburg man died Saturday, one week after being shot while in a vehicle in South Linden.

Josiah Montgomery, 20, died Saturday at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Columbus police said Montgomery had been found around 4:25 a.m. on Oct. 8, shot in the face and slumped over in a vehicle that had crashed into a sign on the 1100 block of Duxberry Avenue in South Linden.

No suspects or motive have been identified by police in his case.
