18 flavors of wings coming with new chicken shop in Indianapolis

A chicken wing franchise is entering the Indianapolis market, taking over the 5527 N. Keystone Ave. building that for decades had been home to a doughnut shop.

Wing Zone will likely begin construction there this summer and open in early fall, said Brian Epstein, whose Urban Space Commercial Properties, worked to lease the space for franchisee Asra Khan.

The Donut Shop, a local favorite, closed at the location in 2021 following the death of its owner.

The wing shop will be the first Indiana Wing Zone for the Las Vegas, Nevada-based chain.

Wing Zone sells wings and tenders in 18 flavors, from Tame to Nuclear Habanero; with Sweet Samurai, Blackened Voodoo and Mango Fire between them.

Its cooked-to-order wings are baked in olive oil and then twice fried.

The chain, also known for its funnel cake fries, was founded in Florida in 1991, and has more than 60 locations — half of them being in the U.S.

Epstein said Khan, who lives in the Chicago area, has plans to open other shops in the Indianapolis area as well as in northwest Indiana.
