An 18-month-old boy died Friday after a hit-and-run crash in Modesto, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said the crash happened on Glenn Avenue, east of Ustick Road, around 5 p.m. A 2021 Toyota sedan was driving on westbound Glenn Avenue when the boy walked onto the roadway and was struck by the driver, officials said. CHP said the driver, identified as 19-year-old Santiago Martinez, kept driving after the crash. Martinez returned to the scene after being followed by witnesses of the crash, officials said. The 18-month-old was taken to the hospital after the crash and later died from his injuries, CHP said. Martinez was arrested on felony hit-and-run charges. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
