18-year-old arrested, charged with felonies after string of robberies in Kyle

KYLE, Texas (KXAN) — An 18-year-old was arrested earlier this week and faces four felony charges following a string of robberies in Kyle and Hays County.

Rudy Joe Luis Romero of Kyle was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, robbery, engaging in organized criminal activity and evading arrest, according to a press release from the City of Kyle.

An attorney was not listed online for Romero at the time of publishing this article, but if that information becomes available, KXAN will reach out for a statement.

According to the release, the robberies happened between Thursday, January 25 and Saturday, February 3 at the below locations and dates:

  • 7-11 on Hill Street/I-35 Northbound Frontage Rd. on 1/25/24

  • 7-11 on South Loop 4/I-35 Southbound Frontage Rd. on 2/1/24

  • Speed-In Shell Station on Creekside Trl. at FM 150 on 2/3/24

During the first two, Romero reportedly entered the stores and demanded money while holding his hand under his jacket, as though to indicate he had a gun, according to the release.

In the third one, he displayed “what appeared to be a firearm” in his waistband, the release said.

Police said similar robberies were committed in San Marcos, Buda, and Hays County over the last two weeks.

Kyle Police detectives, with the help of other agencies, identified Romero as the suspect and obtained a warrant of arrest. Hays County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Romero following a short foot pursuit on Monday, February 5.
