18 year old charged with involuntary manslaughter in Hampton shooting

An 18-year-old Hampton man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting that left a teenager dead earlier this week

Hampton police charged Khalil Ryshawn Rice Cruz with one count of involuntary manslaughter, according to a news release. He is in custody at the Hampton City Jail.

Police responded to a shooting at 8:03 p.m. Monday in the 800 block of Lemaster Avenue. As they investigated, someone dropped the 17-year-old male victim off at a local hospital.

Police said when he was dropped off, his injuries were considered life-threatening. He died in the hospital, according to the news release.

The police have not identified the teenager who was killed. They also did not say who took him to the hospital.

The preliminary police investigation found the teenager was standing in front of his home when someone fired shots from a nearby vehicle.

Police did not provide further information about the motive or circumstances of the shooting.
