18 Sports Blitz – 02/02

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The 18 Sports Biltz returned with a basketball filled slate.

The 18 Sports Blitz returned for another busy week of basketball action. Newark Valley’s Makana “Cha” Gardner became the all-time scoring leader for the Cardinals program. The Stephen F. Austin commit surpassed 1,271 career points, in a dominant win at Elmira Notre Dame. A few minutes across town, Elmira’s Mariah Matias led the Express to a comeback win over Ithaca, 57-52. The standout freshman scored a game-high 31 points in the effort.

In Elmira Heights, Edison fell to Watkins Glen with big nights from both teams. Watkins Glen saw 26 points from Brianna Hatch, while Payton Littlefield scored 27 for the Spartans. Elsewhere in Section IV, Horseheads bested Corning with 13 points from Megan Wolf. Emma Kamas added 12 to the Blue Raiders scoring in the win. In Section V, the top-ranked Hornell girls crushed Way-Co to continue their great season.
