‘1883’ spinoff series casting extras for filming in North Texas towns. Here’s how to apply

A “Yellowstone” spinoff show expanding on the adventures of “1883” is casting again for filming in two small North Texas towns.

“1883: The Bass Reeves Story” tells the story of Bass Reeves, the first black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River. The limited series will be directed by Taylor Sheridan and stars David Oyelowo as the titular real-life lawman.

Talent company Legacy Casting is holding two open casting calls for “Bass Reeves” filming next week in Strawn, about 85 miles west of Fort Worth. The company is also casting for scenes filming in May in Stephenville, about 77 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

The company is seeking identical twins to play conjoined twins at the April 24 filming in Strawn. This is a paid part, offering $200 per person and is open for any ethnicity and gender.

Another broader casting opportunity is open for Black men and women to play extras in a church scene. Production is set in Strawn for April 25. These are also paid parts at $150 a person.

Legacy Casting is also casting Asian men and women as background actors for filming in Stephenville. These are paid parts and filming takes place May 1-3.

Prior to filming, all actors must attend a costume fitting and take a Covid-19 test. To apply for the “Bass Reeves” jobs, email the details below to Legacy Casting at extras@legacycasting.com:

Oyelowo shared a behind-the-scenes photo of him shooting the “1883” spinoff this week in Texas.

This isn’t the first time Legacy Casting announced an open casting call for “Bass Reeves.” In early January, the company was looking for Union and Confederate soldiers for filming in Fort Worth, Glen Rose and Weatherford.

“Bass Reeves” is the latest show from Sheridan in his expansive “Yellowstone” television universe. The flagship series is currently on its mid-season 5 break and is expected to return to the small screen this summer. The other two “Yellowstone” spinoffs — “1883” and “1923” — are available on Paramount+.
