🌱 19 Car Crashes In 1 Day + Ingersoll Theater Needs Repairs

Happy Tuesday, neighbors! Here's everything going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Sunny, but much colder. High: 8 Low: -8.

Here are the top three stories today in Des Moines:

  1. On Monday morning, Des Moines police responded to 19 car crashes. Of the 19 crashes, only two people had minor injuries. Two of those crashes were hit and runs; three were stalled cars. (KCCI Des Moines)

  2. Des Moines officials say that the historic Ingersoll theater is in desperate need of repairs. The 83-year-old building has several holes in the roof and interior water and snow damage. In order to attract a potential buyer, the staff is seeking a formal inspection to determine if the building is structurally sound. (Marshalltown Times Republican)

  3. On Sunday morning, a Des Moines couple was arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop in Perry, Iowa. Anthony John Ramirez and Breanna Taylor Ramirez were both arrested on charges of drug possession, including carrying both marijuana and meth. Anthony Ramirez has previously been convicted of other drug-related crimes. (The Perry News)

From our sponsor:

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
