West Allis shooting victim has been identified as a 19-year-old Arizona man

A 19-year-old man who was fatally shot early Sunday morning in West Allis has been identified.

Phoenix Castanon was from Eagar, Arizona, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office. Eagar is a small town in eastern Arizona, next to the New Mexico border.

West Allis police responded to the shooting at about 2:40 a.m. near West Becher and South 84th streets, the West Allis Police Department said in a news release.

Investigators think the 19-year-old had an argument with a man in a vehicle on South 84th Street. Then, police said, the man fired a shot at the 19-year-old and drove away.

Castanon was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:02 a.m.

West Allis police did not have any suspects in custody as of mid-morning Sunday. No further information was immediately available Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 414-302-8000.

Castanon'sdeath is the first homicide in West Allis this year, Deputy Chief Robert Fletcher said. In all of 2021, the city saw two homicides in total.
