19-year-old Mishawaka bicyclist killed in hit and run; police search for suspect

MISHAWAKA — Police are searching for a suspected hit-and-run driver after a teen bicyclist died Tuesday morning.

Varinder Singh, 19, of Mishawaka, was traveling westbound on East 12th Street when he was hit, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.

Officers were dispatched to the collision on the 1100 block of E. 12th Street around 6:17 a.m. When they arrived, the suspect's vehicle had fled and Singh was deceased, according to St. Joseph County authorities.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) was activated. This crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect's vehicle, a blue or dark colored Chevrolet SUV, identified through preliminary reports, is asked to call Commander Tim Spencer at 574-235-9871, ext. 6441.
