We've seen some pretty strange cars come up for auction, but this is on a different level. It's a 1953 Porsche 356 coupe that was given a surprisingly high-quality limousine conversion. There are a ton of cool features inside, as well as an air-suspension system and the engine from a Porsche 912. The car is coming up for auction via RM Sotheby's as part of its Taj Ma Garaj sale on September 28 in Dayton, Ohio.

According to RM Sotheby's, this 356 limo was built by Don Boeke of Egyptian Custom Body in Dayton, Ohio, at the request of the late John Dixon, owner of the Taj Ma Garaj collection. The car was reportedly commissioned for the wedding of Dixon's daughter. The body shop did most of the conversion work, including the disassembly and paint, while much of the interior work was outsourced to other shops. The original engine has been replaced with a rebuilt air-cooled flat-four from a Porsche 912.

If this thing weren't a limo, it'd be a great example of a 356 Pre-A coupe. Turbine rings around the wheels, a pre-A louvered rear sun shade, and even B-pillar-mounted semaphore turn signals are present. The body itself seems to be in near-perfect condition, with no obvious signs of damage or wear. The real treat, though, is the interior.

The driver compartment is in perfect condition and comes with a rare "Porsche" blanking plate where the radio would otherwise go. The passenger compartment has space for two occupants, plus a large section in the rear for luggage. With ample head and leg room, it looks like a lovely space to spend time. There's even a thermometer that displays readings for both indoor and outdoor temperature mounted on the divider.

It's hard to say how much a car like this is worth—it's probably the only one of its kind, after all. Many Porsche purists probably aren't interested, but we're sure there's at least one person out there who could use a stretched 356 in their life.
