Who needs some fancy car?

In the video accompanying this article is a short documentary about a woman named Kacey and her beloved 1972 Chevrolet C10. It’s definitely nothing fancy, but she restored what was a rough truck and now it’s become a treasured ride. For some it would be just some old truck. It’s not fast or luxurious, but for Kacey it’s down-to-earth and relaxing to take for a drive.

Sometimes you don’t need some overly fancy, ultra-powerful ride. Driving a simple classic on country roads can be one of the most relaxing ways to unwind after a stressful day or week of work. We actually feel bad for people who really believe having only new cars around is healthy, because they don’t know what it’s like to feel that deep connection you get with a completely analog, old-school vehicle. That’s especially true with a truck.

Fortunately for Kacey, finding parts for this C10 isn’t hard at all. It has the 350ci small block V8 which is so common you can practically trip over parts wherever you go. Mated to the engine is the 350 Turbo automatic transmission, which is also incredibly common. Everything else on the pickup can be found at any salvage yard worth its salt.

While Kacey cleaned up the Chevy truck and even gave it a new paint job, she didn’t do anything crazy. In fact, it’s still green with a white top, which is what it had rolling out of the factory. Still, she said people stop and ask her about it often, proving these old trucks might be simple but they have real appeal.

All this isn’t to say we hate luxury cars, exotics, high-powered muscle cars, etc. That’s not true at all. But a perfect car collection would include at least one old truck. It doesn’t have to be fancy or loaded with all kinds of features. In fact, it would be better if it’s simple like Kacey’s C10because then it’s just about cruising around nice and steady, feeling the road and sensing a connection with the machine. There’s definitely something pure about that.
