A suspect has been detained and two abducted girls have been recovered by authorities after they were taken from a home in Kansas where two boys were found dead, officials said.
Before they were located Saturday, the girls were identified by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation as Nora Jackson, 7, and Aven Jackson, 3.
Authorities identified the suspect as Donny Jackson — the father of the two girls — before the children were recovered.
The two boys, reportedly aged 11 and 14, are believed to have been related to Jackson, James Sherley of the Leavenworth County Sheriff said during a press conference Saturday, before the two girls were found.
The boys were believed to be siblings of the two abducted girls, Sherley said.
When asked whether it was believed to be a situation in which the two boys were killed by their father, Sherley replied, “That’s our focus at this point in the investigation, and we are working to verify those facts.”
There had been "some back and forth with other family members” before the girls' disappearances, said Sherley, who added that authorities were called after one of the children did not arrive at a soccer game as expected.
An Amber alert was issued after the girls were taken, according to authorities. They were found after the suspect was stopped for a routine traffic infraction.
Officials have not identified the boys who were found dead at the Kansas residence, nor have they disclosed when their deaths occurred.
