El Paso County sheriff's detectives arrested a man and a woman over the weekend in connection with a dog attack that seriously injured a senior citizen last month in Tornillo.

Felix Castillo, 45, and Debora Castillo, 24, both of Tornillo, were each arrested Saturday on a dog attack charge following an investigation by the Sheriff's Office, authorities said.

The two were each released from the El Paso County Jail on a $10,000 bond on the same day as their arrest, according to a jail log.

Under Texas law, dog owners can be charged with a third-degree felony if an unsecured dog attacks a person unprovoked and causes serious injury.

On the afternoon of Jan. 30, a woman was hospitalized in stable condition after being bitten several times on her face, arms and legs by a pit bull and a bulldog in the 200 block of Oil Mill Drive in Tornillo, the Sheriff's Office said. The sheriff's Animal Welfare Unit ticketed the dogs' owners and seized the animals to be euthanized.

Last month, an 11-year-old child and two other people also were bitten and injured in separate and unrelated dog attacks near Horizon City and in far East El Paso. The Sheriff's Office is cautioning dog owners to keep their pets properly confined to their property and on a leash when out in public.
