2 B-CU students shot Saturday are in stable condition, spokeswoman reports

Two Bethune-Cookman University students shot early Saturday morning at a park in Daytona Beach are recovering at the hospital, a university spokeswoman said.

"Both students are in stable condition," B-CU spokeswoman Karen Parks said Sunday.

Daytona Beach Police said Sunday the 21-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were shot shortly after 2 a.m. near Joe Harris Park, located at 315 Pearl St., which is close to the university. The victims drove themselves to Halifax Health Medical Center, police said.

Officers responded to the scene and found shell casings and other evidence. They later located the two victims at Halifax Health, said Daytona Beach Police spokeswoman Carrie McCallister.

McCallister said the suspected shooter and the victims had contact with each other at another location just before the shooting.

The relationship between the parties is still unknown, she said in a news release Sunday.

Police said they had not yet identified the shooter.

Parks said the university holds students' safety as its top priority.

"The safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority," Parks said. "We ask for prayers for the students who were injured, their families, and the entire B-CU community."

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information about the incident to contact Det. Zachary Ravi at ravizachary@dbpd.us.
