2 baby Amur leopard cubs born at Pittsburgh Zoo, public can help name them

Two baby Amur leopard cubs were just born at the Pittsburgh Zoo.

The cubs were born on March 18 and are being taken care of by their mother, Semba. The zoo says this is her first litter.

Amur leopards are considered endangered. Officials from the zoo say there are roughly 100 individual cats living in Russia and China.

“Semba was born at the Pittsburgh Zoo herself and we’re so glad to see the next generation join us. She’s such a good mom,” said Karen Vacco, assistant curator of mammals. “Aside from digital monitoring of the denning area, we’re letting them bond. They’re doing well, the babies are nursing and growing just like they should.”

The cubs will not be visible to the public until after they are vaccinated and can safely move about their outside habitat. The zoo expects this to be around June.

Anyone who would like a chance to name the cubs can visit the Pittsburgh Zoo’s website. To enter the naming contest simply donate $5 to the zoo. The top names will be picked by the staff and go on for a final selection process.
