2 From Barnegat Schools Test Positive For Coronavirus

BARNEGAT, NJ — Two people from Barnegat schools tested positive for the coronavirus, Superintendent Dr. Brian Latwis announced Sunday. The cases are associated with Russell O. Brackman Middle School and the Robert L. Horbelt School and aren't unrelated, officials said.

"There is nothing you need to do at this time," Latwis wrote to parents, guardians and staff. Health officials will notify anyone who had close contact with the individuals.

Latwis did not say whether they are students or staff. The district won't release any further information about the patients and asked others to protect their privacy.

Officials also announced a confirmed case Wednesday at Barnegat High School. Read more: Barnegat High School Parents Informed Of Confirmed COVID-19 Case

The district is coordinating with the Ocean County Health Department for contact tracing and has enhanced cleaning and sanitization, Latwis said. Anyone with questions should email onebarnegat@barnegatschools.com.

The Barnegat Township School District reopened for fall with a hybrid plan. One group of students physically attends school Mondays and Wednesdays, while the other group goes Tuesdays and Thursdays. Friday is a virtual day, and some families have opted for the children to learn remotely this year.
