2 charged with murder in connection with Portsmouth double homicide

Police arrested two people in connection to the Nashville Avenue homicide that left two brothers dead Sunday.

Shamoine Briggs, 30, and Joseph Cross, 31, were each charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Other charges include robbery, carjacking, arson and five counts of use of a firearm.

Police found brothers Alvin K. Joyner, 51, and Calvin R. Joyner, 51, with fatal gunshot wounds around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning at the 1800 block of Nashville Avenue, near Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

A woman also sustained life-threatening injuries in the shooting. There has been no update on her condition.

The incident was one of three separate shootings in Portsmouth on Sunday.
