Roadway reopens after Loop 202 wrong-way crash in Phoenix injures 2 children, 3 adults

A five-vehicle crash on Loop 202 in Phoenix left two children and three adults hospitalized Sunday afternoon, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

The accident happened just before 5 p.m. near 32nd Street, the Fire Department said. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the crash was caused by a wrong-way driver on the eastbound lanes of Loop 202.

Firefighters found four vehicles piled up and another vehicle on the side. One person was pulled from a car and multiple people were taken to the hospital, including two girls ages 9 and 12 and three adults, the Fire Department said.

The roadway was closed at 24th Street for several hours and has reopened since. The westbound lanes were not affected, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The accident was being investigated by authorities.
