2 dead, 1 injured in single-engine plane crash at Lake of the Ozarks, police say

Two people died and a third was seriously injured Thursday after a single-engine plane crash landed in a wooded area near the Lake of the Ozarks.

Authorities were notified around noon of a small plane appearing to fall from the sky shortly after takeoff from the Grand Glaize Airport, a municipally owned airfield in Osage Beach frequented by private planes.

Emergency responders from several agencies worked quickly to locate the downed aircraft, including the use of a Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter, said Lt. Michael O’Day of the Osage Beach Police Department. The wreckage was located roughly 40 minutes later in a remote location that was once a golf course.

Two people were pronounced dead after emergency workers arrived and the third was airlifted to a hospital, O’Day said. All were believed to be adult males. Authorities were making next-of-kin notifications Thursday evening.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified. The NTSB said Thursday the agency would investigate what caused the crash.
