Two Memphis, Texas residents were killed and two others were injured in a crash early Sunday in Donley County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred about 12:32 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 on US 287, about three miles east of Clarendon. Investigators believe a 2013 Dodge Ram was eastbound on the highway when it left the roadway and struck a traffic sign. The Ram traveled back onto eastbound US 287 "and was traveling slowly in the outside lane," DPS said.

At the same time, a 2013 Nissan Altima, which was traveling eastbound behind the Ram, failed to control speed and struck the rear of the pickup, which left the roadway and entered the south ditch, stopping against a barbed wire fence, according to DPS. Authorities said the pickup sustained significant rear damage and minor frontal damage.

The Altima left the road and traveled into the center median, where it came to a rest with significant front-end damage, DPS said.

Two passengers in the Altima died as a result of their injuries. Yolanda Castillo, 60, of Memphis, was taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead. Alicia Salinas Flores, 77, of Memphis, was pronounced dead at the scene by Donley County Justice of the Peace Pat White.

The driver of the Altima, Michael Flores, 43, of Memphis, was taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Ram, Humberto Martinez, 32, of Memphis, was taken to BSA in Amarillo with serious injuries.

The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
