The Phoenix Fire Department believes two people who were found dead had been electrocuted after coming in contact with ground electrical wires.

Two people died after they were "possibly electrocuted" Wednesday near Peoria and 19th Avenues in Phoenix, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

It appears both people were electrocuted after coming in contact with ground electrical wires, said Capt. Evan Gammage, a spokesperson with the Phoenix Fire Department. It is unclear why the two were touching electrical wires.

When firefighters responded, they worked with Arizona Public Service to make sure power in the area was shut down so that they could respond safely.

Crews determined both people were dead, according to Gammage. Neither person has been identified.

Phoenix police were investigating the scene.
