2 dead, 1 charged after apparent targeted shooting in East Nashville school parking lot

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two teens are dead and another is in custody after an apparent targeted shooting in the parking lot of an East Nashville school Thursday evening.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the shooting happened around 7 p.m. on Feb. 8, in the parking lot of Meigs Magnet School on Ramsey Street.

Officials said 16-year-old Takeo Bills of Chapel Hill, and 17-year-old Jalen McAdams of Franklin, traveled to the parking lot together in a white Nissan Altima at approximately 6:50 p.m.

A black Honda Accord was already in the parking lot, with 18-year-old Rico Doss Jr. and one other person inside, according to authorities.

After the Altima parked next to the Honda, Doss and the other individual allegedly got into the backseat of Altima, the two victims were shot, and then Doss and the other person got out of the Altima and sped away in the Honda.

The MNPD said McAdams died at the scene, but Bills died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

According to officials, detectives are investigating a drug motive for the gunfire.

During the night, detectives reportedly tracked the Honda’s movements, including a brief stop at a nearby apartment complex. Then, further investigation led to information identifying Doss as a potential suspect in the double homicide, police said.

Several hours later, MNPD announced on social media that Doss is being charged with two counts of criminal homicide in connection with Thursday night’s shooting.

However, authorities said Doss was arrested at his Bellevue apartment Friday morning on an outstanding attempted homicide warrant for shooting another 17-year-old last weekend during a “marijuana deal gone bad.”

Police said the shooting in question took place around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3 in the 1300 block of Westchester Drive.

The victim reportedly met a suspect at the location and got into a dark-colored sedan, but while he was in the vehicle with two other people, one of them took the victim’s handgun, hit him in the back of the head, and shot him once in the leg.

A Davidson County affidavit says Doss told the victim where to meet up and he was identified by the victim and open-source data.

An MNPD spokesperson initially told News 2 the victim in last weekend’s shooting sustained a non-life-threatening injury, but according to the affidavit, Doss “intentionally and knowingly shot the juvenile victim, causing him life-threatening injuries.”
