2 Dead, At Least 7 Injured In Mass Shooting On South Side

At least two people are dead and several others are injured after a mass shooting near Chicago's West Woodlawn neighborhood.

MUGO ODIGWE: On the south side, a mass shooting near the West Woodlawn neighborhood. We know at least two people were killed and several others injured. "CBS 2's" Meredith Barack live on the scene now with what we know. Meredith.

MEREDITH BARACK: Mugo, good morning. We are here on South-- South Chicago Avenue where this mass shooting took place around 5 o'clock this morning. Like you just mentioned, at least two people dead, seven others injured.

We are working to learn more details as to what was going on here early this morning. I'm going to step aside here and let you get a look at this scene. Police still putting down evidence markers. They are not saying much right now, only that several people were shot here on South Chicago Avenue near East Marquette Road right around 5:00 this morning.

The fire department tweeting that they transported seven victims to area hospitals, and at least two people were killed. The fire department says it is not clear right now how many people were hit by bullets because many of those victims may have driven themselves to the hospital.
