2 dead in solo car crash into tree in Sonoma County

(KRON) — Two people died Tuesday night after crashing into a tree on River Road in Sonoma County, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Around 10:52 p.m., CHP officers and Sonomo County firefighters responded to reports of a car accident on River Road west of Laughlin Road. Officers said they found a Chevy Trailblazer tipped on its side on the side of the road.

The male driver and female passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said the car was traveling east on River Road when, for unknown reasons, it drifted off the road, collided with a tree and rolled onto its side.

There are no witnesses for the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
