2 die in plane that crashed about 200 feet from Texas airport, officials say

Two people died after a plane crashed in a Texas field near a small airport, officials confirmed to McClatchy News.

The plane crashed in a cattle pasture at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 5 — about about 200 feet away from the Marlin Airport’s runway, Marlin City Manager Cedric Davis Sr. told McClatchy News.

The airplane was a single-engine Cessna, and was mangled and overturned from the crash, Davis said. Two people, a male and a female, were found dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration is on scene and investigating, Davis said.

Davis said the angle of the plane suggested the plane was attempting to land at the runway.

“We believe they were trying to get to our airport but didn’t make it,” he said.

According to the FAA, the flight was originally scheduled to go from Houston Executive Airport to Waco Regional Airport.

Marlin, with a population of about 5,600, is about 30 miles southeast of Waco.
