2 football, 2 volleyball players named Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week (Aug. 22-27)

Two boys and girls high school athletes had standout performances between Aug. 22 and Aug. 27.

The top performers were volleyball and football players from Enterprise, Foothill and Fall Fall River.

Enterprise and Foothill won their season openers in football. Foothill girls volleyball won a tournament in Yreka. Fall River girls volleyball placed second at a tournament in Sutter.

Male Athletes of the Week

School: Enterprise

Sport: Football

Position: Running back

Team contributions: Enterprise was dominant in the run game during its season opener against Franklin of Stockton last Friday. Welch rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries. He averaged 17.1 yards per touch. Enterprise won the game 55-0.

Dylan Labarbera

Position: Offensive and defensive line

Team contributions: Labarbera trucked through the opposition in last Friday's 21-17 victory over Edison of Stockton. Labarbera had eight tackles, including seven for loss with four sacks and two assists.

Female Athletes of the Week

School: Foothill

Sport: Volleyball

Position: Outside hitter

Team contributions: Wilson asserted herself into Foothill's offense during Saturday's weekend tournament at Yreka High School. Wilson finished the tournament with 30 kills, 20 digs and 15 serving points. Foothill (12-2) won the tournament with victories over Trinity, Lassen, Phoenix (Oregon) and West Valley.

Sydney Cassity

School: Fall River

Sport: Volleyball

Position: Setter and outside hitter

Team contributions: Cassity performed at a high level after her team swept Central Valley on the road on Aug. 23 and beat Lassen at home last Thursday. Fall River placed second in the Battle of the Buttes Tournament held at Sutter High School last Saturday. Fall River earned three victories at the tournament against East Nicolaus, Dixon and Woodland Christian. Cassity has 58 assists, 10 kills and 10 aces this year.
