2 found dead in apparent murder-suicide at Bloomington apartment

Police are investigating the deaths of two people found at a Bloomington apartment Wednesday afternoon.

Monroe County Coroner Joani Stalcup said the two died in an apparent murder-suicide.

Sara Gilbert, 21, and Cameron Black, 22, of Bloomington, were found dead about 2 p.m. Wednesday inside an apartment in the 1200 block of Rolling Ridge Way. Stalcup said each died from a gunshot wound. A Glock 9mm handgun was found near Cameron’s body, according to Monroe County Sheriff Brad Swain.

Swain confirmed that the two likely died in a murder-suicide, and said the investigation is continuing. He said family members reported the couple had been having relationship difficulties, with Gilbert moving out Tuesday but returning to the apartment later the same day. After being unable to reach Gilbert later Tuesday or on Wednesday, a friend went to check on her with the help of an apartment maintenance person and found the bodies.

Autopsies were scheduled in Terre Haute Thursday.
