2 Gals serves up American bar bites with Portuguese flare in Abington

ABINGTON — Two married entrepreneurs went against the grain after working in the food industry for over a decade.

The pair decided to open their second restaurant, 2 Gals Sports Bar and Grill in Abington.

Grace and Carol Rodrigues opened their first location, 2 Gals Grill, in West Bridgewater, as a cute breakfast spot to serve locals hot coffee and a good morning pick me up.

Their next passion project was the 2 Gals Sports Bar and Grill located at 201 North Quincy St. in Abington.

When you walk into the sports bar, the bright yellow walls hug you with happiness and sunshine. The owners felt it was needed to brighten up customers' days.

The walls are not the wow factor of the restaurant. Plastered on every corner are high-definition flat screens TVs that give people the ultimate homey feel to kick off their shoes and enjoy a beer.

The menu is a mixed bag of classic American pub food, Southern comfort food and a traditional Portuguese flare.

Grace, who is Portuguese, grew up around a family that cooked extravagant meals every day. Grace wanted to bring a little bit of her culture to the menu, she said.

You can find deep-fried appetizers, seafood plates, homestyle mac and cheese, bar pizza and steak and cheese fresh off the grill.

Grace, a Rhode Island native, started cooking at 14 years old, and it never left her. As a teen, she worked in many restaurants and worked her way up from busing tables to management.

One day, the couple thought it would be better to invest all their energy in their own restaurant instead of managing someone else's. Working in the restaurant industry took a lot of time away from taking care of their family. But now, as a family, they can run their own business as a collective.

What's next for 2 Gals?

Carol and Grace found two perfect locations and let their food dreams lead the way.

In the future, for 2 Gals, Carol and Grace are hoping to finalize their food truck preparations and get it on the road.

Their goal is to expand the restaurant and have multiple locations, near and far.
