2 injured in shooting near southeast Memphis lounge

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting near a hookah lounge in southeast Memphis left two men injured Sunday morning, Memphis Police say.

According to reports, officers responded to a shooting near the Blue Hookah Lounge at 3669 South Mendenhall Road just after 6 a.m.

Police say two men were transported to Regional One Hospital, one in critical condition and the other non-critical.

The owner of the hookah lounge says the shooting took place outside his business.

He says the patrons were causing a disturbance inside the lounge, and for everyone’s safety, he kicked them out.

Hours after the business closed, he says gunshots rang out in the empty lot, but the owner says he did not see the shooting.

Near the intersection of Winchester and Mendenhall, we also noticed officers looking at a vehicle that was covered in bullet holes with its passenger side door open. It is unclear if the vehicle is connected to the crime.

There is no suspect information available at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
