2 Kenai Peninsula residents killed in head-on collision on Sterling Highway

Dec. 22—The drivers of two vehicles died in a head-on collision late Wednesday morning on the Sterling Highway in Clam Gulch, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers responded to the crash near Mile 119.5 just before 11:30 a.m.

A southbound 2023 Kia Carnival van, driven by 40-year-old Brandon Ihde, crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2010 Toyota Tacoma driven by 60-year-old Ane Mane, troopers said.

Ihde and Mane died on scene, troopers said. Ihde is from Kenai and Mane is from Homer, and according to troopers, no one else was in either vehicle.

Troopers said the crash happened on a straight stretch of the road where there was patchy ice.

The Sterling Highway closed for more than four hours following the crash.
