3 killed in crash near Leesburg International Airport

Three people died in a crash in a crash in Leesburg Wednesday morning.

Around 8 a.m., Leesburg Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services responded to the intersection of Main Street and Sleepy Hollow Rd. just west of Leesburg International Airport for reports of a “serious” motor vehicle accident.

According to police, a blue 2020 Ford Mustang was headed southbound on US-441 where it collided with the back of a silver 2023 Hyundai Tucson.,

The Mustang continued over the center median and into the northbound lanes of traffic where it collided with a third vehicle, a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. A black Chevy Silverado that was also northbound then collided with the Sonata.

The driver of the Mustang, identified only as a 77-year-old woman from Mount Dora, died at the scene.

The driver of the Sonata, identified as a 42-year-old man from Umatilla, was also pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Sonata, identified as a 66-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and pronounced dead there.

According to the police department, the driver of the Mustang appears to have been at fault, but an investigation is ongoing.

Northbound US-441 was closed for approximately three hours while police conducted their investigation.
