JESSE KIRSCH: Mark, at this point we know at least 12 people have been shot, including the two people killed. And as we understand from police, that number could be as many as 15 people that have been shot this morning. You can see behind me here in the 6700 block of South South Chicago Avenue still police crime scene tape up and multiple police vehicles. We will be hearing from the police superintendent later this morning, so keep an eye out for that. We'll have more information from him, but here's what we know right now.

There was a party going on here, according to police, at around 4:40 this morning, when suddenly, there were gunshots ringing out amongst several of the people who were on the scene here. And you can see from this video that this was, as it was described to me by the fire department, a chaotic scene. You can see numerous fire department and police department vehicles filling the street as they were trying to treat multiple victims. Here's what the fire department described seeing on the scene.

GREG STINNETT: They were running. They were screaming. You know, they were just every-- you know, they were everywhere.

JESSE KIRSCH: This doesn't happen very often, this many.

GREG STINNETT: Well, that's true. I mean, the scene was very chaotic. Even when I arrived, you could hear the chatter on the radio. It was quite chaotic, and our crews did a tremendous job getting their arms around it, you know, sorting out the casualties and the victims. And we were able to triage, treat, and transport everybody effectively.

JESSE KIRSCH: Back here live, you can see there are still multiple shoes on the ground, Stacey and Mark, that underscores the chaos that was described to us. And in the aftermath, in the hours since, we've seen multiple people showing up at the scene here presumably looking for loved ones. We've heard some people screaming out.

In fact, at least one person we saw running toward the doorway behind us here-- police having to pull that person back. You can tell this is a very emotionally charged situation here with at least a dozen people shot. We know from police, the victims are men and women ages 20 to 44 years old.

And again, at least a dozen people shot, two people dead. That number could be 15, and these numbers have fluctuated, Stacey and Mark, throughout the morning. Of course, we have, unfortunately, seen that tally continue to go up. That is because officials have seen people bringing themselves to area hospitals in addition to those who were taken by ambulance, so those numbers continue to change.

But at this point, we know definitively this was a very serious, very violent situation with at least a dozen people shot. Again, two people are now dead.
