2 killed in separate Friday night fatal crashes in Louisville

Two people were killed in two separate car crashed Friday night in Louisville, according to police.

The first crash was reported at about 8:45 p.m., according to a statement from Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Beth Ruoff, at 35th and Bank streets. A juvenile in his late teens who was driving a moped on 35th Street crashed into an SUV at the intersection, Ruoff said, and was later pronounced dead after being taken to University of Louisville Hospital. The SUV's driver, an adult woman, was cooperative and remained on the scene, according to LMPD.

The person killed in that crash was identified early Saturday morning by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office as 17-year-old Isles Kenyetta-Lee Duncan.

In a separate incident just after 10 p.m., LMPD officers responded to a report of a single-car crash at Third Street and Village Park Drive, according to Ruoff, where the driver, an adult woman, was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene. Three juvenile passengers were taken to Norton Children's Hospital for medical examination, but no injuries were reported. Ruoff said preliminary reports indicate the crash may have been cause by a "vehicular issue."

The woman who was killed was identified hours later by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office as 32-year-old Tatiana Michelle Lopes.

LMPD's traffic unit is investigating both cases, Ruoff said.
