2 men arrested in car theft, kidnapping of 1-year-old Wednesday night. Girl found safe

Two men have been arrested in the kidnapping of a 1-year-old girl who was in the back seat of a car that was stolen from a 7-Eleven in Ogletown on Wednesday night, the New Castle County Police Department said.

An Amber Alert was issued for the child when she was taken, and she was found safe less than two hours later at a wine and spirits store in Philadelphia.

Police said the man who stole the car with the girl in the back seat initially got out of another car in the parking lot before they both drove off toward I-95. The Philadelphia Police Department found the original car, a black Nissan Kicks, in the city later Wednesday night.

A 42-year-old man from New Castle and a 35-year-old man from Laurel were inside the car, according to police, and were arrested for warrants unrelated to the kidnapping and car theft. Police said they later found the stolen Nissan Altima in Kensington.

Both men have been charged with three felonies: second-degree kidnapping, motor vehicle theft and first-degree conspiracy. They have also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

They are being held in Pennsylvania awaiting extradition back to Delaware.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Gino Cevallos by calling 302-395-8129 or by email at Gino.Cevallos@newcastlede.gov.
