2 men die in separate crashes in Troop E region over holiday weekend

The first two traffic fatalities of 2024 within the 10-parish Troop E region happened over the holiday weekend during separate crashes.

The first crash killed Brandon Jenkins, 48. Jenkins, a Deville resident, was driving a motorized assisted bicycle around 4 p.m. on Nation Road when he fell "and sustained fatal injuries," reads a Louisiana State Police news release.

The second crash took place on Monday around 4 p.m. in Sabine Parish on La. Highway 6 near Pioneer Road, which is outside Many.

A 2008 Lexus, driven by 78-year-old Frank Bankston of Texas, ran off the highway into a ditch before hitting a tree. Bankston was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

Two juveniles, both restrained, suffered moderate injuries. They were taken to a hospital for treatment, reads a separate news release.

Investigations are underway in both crashes.
