2 Miami officers hurt and a trucker is dead in crash of patrol car and truck, cops say

A man was killed and two Miami police officers were taken to the hospital after a crash Friday morning, authorities said.

The crash involving a police car and a box truck happened around 11:50 a.m. at Northwest 25th Avenue and 28th Street, said Officer Michael Vega, a Miami police spokesman. By mid-afternoon, roads in the area remained shut down.

A person in the truck died, and the two officers were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition, Vega said.

Vega could not immediately confirm if the person in the box truck was the driver or a passenger.

Miami police Cmdr. Freddie Cruz said there is no initial indication the officers were chasing anyone at the time of the crash, which is under investigation.
