$2 million bonus for Valley Children’s CEO in 2020: How did that happen?
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – In fiscal year 2020, the CEO of Valley Children’s Hospital earned a bonus that eclipsed his already established standard salary of $1.4 million for that year.
According to tax documents available on the IRS’s website, Todd Suntrapak’s bonus in fiscal year 2020 was $2,283,541 – which he earned in addition to his regular salary of $1,499,948 – to make a total of over $3.7 million in combined salary and bonus.

After an inquiry by YourCentralValley.com, Valley Children’s Hospital’s public relations company AMF Media Group detailed what was used to establish Todd Suntrapak’s bonus in fiscal year 2020.
According to the statement released in return, the criteria used to establish how much executives received in their bonus were:
Epic EMR Implementation (ensuring operations remained on time and on budget)
Consolidated Operating Margin (an indicator of profitability)
Best Quality (measured results that show the quality of hospital operations)
Best Satisfaction (survey results measuring hospital satisfaction)
Best Access/Efficiency (measuring how well the hospital was running day to day)
According to Valley Children’s Hospital, the Valley Children’s Board of Trustees used a third-party consultant to review CEO Todd Suntrapak’s compensation based on the national market and base his worth within the industry.
The consultant was directed by the board to build a compensation model that put Todd Suntrapak in the 90th percentile nationwide, putting his wage among the top 10% of earners in the industry.
“Todd performed well,” wrote Vintage Foster with AMF Media Group. “As such he received a bonus pay out.”
