$2 million in grants heading out to HBCUs, including 2 in Atlanta

The Home Depot is giving back to Historically Black Colleges and Universities, with two being right here in metro Atlanta.

On Tuesday, The Home Depot Retool Your School program held its annual awards celebration at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Thirty-six HBCUs were awarded over $2 million in grants to help improve their college campuses

Those awarded included Morris Brown College and Morehouse College.

The Campus Improvement Grant program is separated into three clusters based on student population.

TRENDING STORIES:

The top ten schools with the most votes per cluster received grants ranging from $40,000 to $150,000.

Other HBCUs included Howard University, Savannah State University, Florida A&M University, and Benedict College.

As part of the new needs-based grant program, 10 schools were also awarded Innovation Lounge funding to enhance campuses where students meet and share ideas.

“We recognize that HBCUs are fundamental to academic success and professional development in both the communities they serve and our nation as a whole. We’re committed to preserving that incredible history and seeing that it continues to grow,” Molly Battin, senior vice president, and chief marketing officer said.
