2-year-old dies after he’s attacked by dog while visiting family, Maryland cops say

A toddler died after his grandmother’s dog attacked him, according to Maryland police.

The 2-year-old and his siblings spent the day playing with their grandmother’s dog Tuesday, April 4, before the attack, Brunswick police chief Kevin Grunwell told McClatchy News. As he and his family were leaving that afternoon, the dog bit him.

Police officers and first responders found the boy with life-threatening injuries, Grunwell said. The toddler was then airlifted to the hospital, where he died.

The toddler was visiting his grandmother’s house to celebrate her birthday with his mom and siblings from Fauquier County, Virginia, according to Grunwell.

The mastiff pit bull mix is in quarantine, Grunwell said. An investigation to determine next steps is ongoing.

We’ve had a devastating incident in Brunswick this evening. Please keep the family and those involved in your thoughts and prayers,” Brunswick Mayor Nathan Brown wrote in a Facebook post.

Frederick County is about 40 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.
