Police have found the 2-year-old who went missing from a campsite in Comins Township, Michigan, on Monday. The search lasted more than 24 hours.

For more than 24 hours, law enforcement searched for the toddler.

"She's safe, she's been reunited with her mother and she's going to the hospital for a checkup," Travis House, a Michigan State Police lieutenant told USA TODAY. "She was alive, well and alert."

The Vitale family went camping late last week, according to a release from the Oscoda County Sheriff's Office. As they were packing up Monday morning, the family lost track of their daughter.

Police began looking for the little girl around 8:15 a.m. Monday.

On Monday night, Michigan State Police's mobile command center became the "incident command post," they said in a tweet. Resources to support police efforts to look for the child poured in through Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Ted West, dispatcher for Oscoda County Sheriff's Office, told USA TODAY there were multiple counties "out there looking" on Tuesday morning.

While the search was limited to law enforcement and search-and-rescue groups, concerned citizens submitted their names and contact information to Oscoda County Sheriff's Office to volunteer for the search. West said they were taking names and numbers but not asking anyone to report to the scene.

In all, there were more than 50 searchers from the Michigan State Police, the Department of Natural Resources, the United States Forest Service, and Michigan Search and Rescue, police said in a tweet.

Searchers worked tirelessly for many hours, said House, the state police lieutenant.

"It's a weight lifted off of everyone's shoulders here," he said.
