2 ordered to trial in double homicide at Delano gas station

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Kern County judge on Thursday found sufficient evidence to order two people to stand trial in connection to the killing of two men last year at a Delano gas station, according to court records.

Bryan Heredia, 19, and Rito Castillo, 25, face life terms in prison if convicted on charges including two counts of first-degree murder. They’re due back in court next month for a hearing at which a trial date is expected to be set.

Charges were dismissed against a third defendant, Saul Ochoa, records show.

It’s alleged an argument involving gang members led to the shooting.

On July 14, Jose Juarez, 28, of Delano, and Joshua Pena, 28, of Bakersfield were killed at the Valero gas station on Girard Street. Surveillance footage captured the incident.

Heredia is the accused gunman, prosecutors say. He and others fled in a Dodge Ram, leading police on a high-speed chase that ended when a police vehicle rear-ended the pickup at Zachary and Woollomes Avenue, according to court documents.
