DIMONDALE — Two people were found dead at a residence in the village early Thursday after police received a call about "shots fired," said a police official.

An area resident called 911 after hearing gunshots on Cherry Court, a dead-end street, just before 5 a.m., said state police Lt. Rene Gonzalez.

Police located "two deceased individuals" at a home on the street when they arrived, he said. He declined to give any other details about the incident.

State police are leading the investigation, Gonzalez said, but police are still at the home.

There is no threat to the public, he said.

"An official update will be posted when it is available," said Dimondale Village Manager Denis Prisk, in a statement posted to the village's Facebook page Thursday morning. "The scene is secure and the Village Residents are safe. Two of our Residents lost their lives today and, out of respect, Official news will be provided when available. Thank you for your patience on the matter."

A shelter-in-place order was issued to residents "in the area of Bridge and Washington" just before 6 a.m. It was lifted about 20 minutes later.

Cherry Court remained closed at just before 9 a.m., Gonzalez said.
