2 people found dead in house near Walker Middle School after fire reported
Salem police are investigating the deaths of two people found by firefighters responding to a fire at a house near Walker Middle School in West Salem Friday morning.
Salem Police Department spokeswoman Lt. Debbie Aguilar said a fire was reported at the house in the 1100 block of 8th Street NW at 7:55 a.m.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke coming from the single-story house, and Salem Fire Department responded with a battalion chief, four fire engines, one ladder truck and a medic unit.

Firefighters discovered a small fire inside the home and quickly extinguished the flames.
Aguilar said during the fire investigation, two people were found dead inside the home.
Three dogs were also found — one inside and two outside the home. The dog inside died. The two found outside survived and are being cared for by neighbors.
Police declined to release further information and said Salem Police and Salem Fire are continuing to investigate the deaths.
