These 2 prominent downtown Gilbert restaurants have permanently closed

The downtown Gilbert dining district looks a little different since two prominent restaurants closed in January 2022.

Da'Bayou Creole Kitchen, a New Orleans-style spot serving a variety of seafood and southern dishes has shuttered to become a catering and meal prep company. And on the other side of Gilbert Road, Copper 48 has gone dark. Just last year the restaurant transformed from Nico Heirloom Kitchen to the upscale gastropub concept.

Here's what you need to know about these recent closures in downtown Gilbert.

After dealing with staffing issues and temporary closures, Da'Bayou Creole Kitchen has permanently closed.

The Louisiana-style restaurant served po'boy sandwiches, catfish baskets, shrimp boils and jambalaya in a modern space decorated with musical New Orleans themed artwork and murals. It was located on Gilbert Road between Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row and Bergies Coffee Roast House.

Fans of the restaurant's cooking may still have a chance to order the food. Chef Ali Biller is now running Tasted, a catering, private chef and meal prep company.

The restaurant wedged between Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles and Pomo Pizzeria on Gilbert Road first opened as Nico Heirloom Kitchen in May 2016, with acclaimed chef Gio Osso at the helm.

In early 2021, the concept transformed into Copper 48, a trendy gastropub that served burgers and pub fare along with throwback Italian dishes called "Heirloom Classics" from the original restaurant's menu.

Now, the restaurant's online reservation system notifies potential customers that the restaurant is permanently closed.
