2 Reading school administrators promoted to new leadership roles in the district

Aug. 26—Two Reading School District administrators have been appointed to new roles in the district's leadership team.

The school board at its voting meeting Wednesday appointed Wanda Gonzalez-Crespo as assistant superintendent for school improvement and JuliAnne Kline as the assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.

The appointments were made on the recommendation of Dr. Jennifer Murray, superintendent.

Gonzalez-Crespo had been serving as interim assistant superintendent since fall 2021.

"Mrs. Gonzalez-Crespo is a respected and trusted colleague and leader in our district and our community," Murray said in a news release.

Gonzalez-Crespo will oversee all aspects of federal requirements for public education, as well as elements of the curriculum, instructional programming and professional development.

"I look forward to engaging with teams to learn how we can significantly improve the quality of the instructional programming that RSD offers," she said in the release. "I'm confident that we can positively impact our overall student achievement. As somebody born and raised in the City of Reading, I know the district has the power to significantly influence the community in a positive way."

A graduate of Reading High School, Gonzalez-Crespo earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and elementary education from Albright College and a Master of Arts in education with specialization in teaching English as a second language from Penn State University and University of Turabo, Gurabo, Puerto Rico, respectively.

She went on to earn a school principal certification from Alvernia University and superintendent letter of eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania, California, Washington County.

Murray said Gonzalez-Crespo has high expectations for excellence and equity in education and sees promise and potential in every child and every educator in the district.

"Her positive leadership style inspires others," Murray said in the release. "And she will be instrumental in developing new strategies and teams to meet the demands of an ever-changing world."

Kline previously served as director of instructional services and professional development for the district.

"Ms. Kline is a dedicated educator, who has touched the lives of thousands of children in our community," Murray said in the release. "We value her passion for seeing each and every student reach for their potential."

Kline will work closely with the special education and social services departments, as well as the Reading Virtual Academy and the elementary principals.

"I look forward to having a greater impact on the students and staff of RSD, people I have called my work family for 28 years," she said in the news release. "I am excited to work closely with different departments than I have in the past, all focused on the best interest of our students."

Kline joined the district in 1994 as an elementary teacher, serving Amanda Stout and 12th and Marion elementary schools until 2001 when she moved into administrative positions.

She has served as the director of instruction for kindergarten through 12th-grade students, director of secondary education and as principal of Tyson-Schoener and Riverside elementary schools.

Kline holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education, Master of Education in curriculum and instruction, and educational leadership and principal certifications from Penn State University. She also earned a superintendent letter of eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania.
